Overview

Vivix Studios is an independent animation and game studio founded by veterans behind Love, Death & Robots. We partnered with Vivix to develop production-ready industrial prop assets for Artificial Detective, an original retrofuturistic sci-fi IP. Our contribution focused on highly detailed hard-surface props designed to integrate seamlessly into the project's cinematic visual language, balancing believable engineering with the aged, industrial aesthetic that defines its world.

The Challenge

Retrofuturism Requires a Delicate Balance

Assets needed to feel futuristic without becoming overly futuristic—grounded in believable engineering while reflecting an imagined future shaped by decades of wear, repair, and industrial use.

Every Surface Had to Tell a Story

Materials, edge wear, paint damage, and mechanical details all had to reinforce the world-building. Every prop needed to feel functional, manufactured, and naturally aged rather than simply weathered.

Matching an Established Visual Language

Every asset had to integrate seamlessly with Vivix Studios' existing environments and characters, maintaining consistent proportions, detailing, and material treatment across the project.

Our Solution

Three Colonist delivered a library of production-ready industrial sci-fi props for Artificial Detective, including machinery, power systems, and modular hard-surface components. Every asset was modeled and textured to hero-asset quality, combining functional engineering with cinematic surface detailing to support close-up animation and storytelling.
